 Programs for Children & Tweens

 Summer 2016

Programs are open to both North Haven residents and non-residents. You may register online with the North Haven Library Events Calendar at the upper left, in person, or by phone at 203-239-5803. Phone registrations will not be taken prior to 10 am.  See program listing for details. All programs are free.

As a courtesy to others, you must call a staff member in the Children’s Department if your child is registered for a program but cannot attend.

Failure to do so will result in your child being dropped from future programs.

Monday, September 19

Pokémon Club @ 3:30 p.m.  

Ages 6 – 12 Do you have what it takes to be a Pokémon Master? Play Pokémon with your peers and make new friends! Be sure to bring your own cards. No registration required.

Pajama Storytime @ 6:30 p.m.  

Ages 3 – 6 with adult Wear your favorite PJs along with Storytime Sue. No registration required.  

Wednesday, September 21

Full of Joy Yoga @ 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.  

(6 week series starting in September)  Wednesdays, Sept. 21, 28 & Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26.
Ages 3 – 5 Yoga helps children develop strong, flexible bodies while cultivating a lifetime of joy, peace and wonder. Classes with Lani Rosen of Full of Joy Yoga combine music, games, and stories to give all the benefits of yoga. Registration required & begins on Friday, Sept. 9th for Residents & Friday, Sept. 16th for Non-Residents.

Thursday, September 22

Toddler Time @ 10:30 a.m. 

(6 week series starting in September) Thursdays, Sept. 22, 29, October 6, 13, 20, 27.
Ages 18 – 30 months
Come play and learn! Parent/Caregiver and toddlers interact with books, learn fingerplays and enjoy music. Following class, enjoy some time to play with your  little ones and to get to know one another. Registration required & begins on Sept. 9th for Residents & Friday, Sept. 16th for Non-Residents.

Saturday, September 24

Sensory Storytime @ 10:30 a.m. 

Open to children ages 4 – 17 who function at a 4 – 10 year old age level.
Sensory Storytime is an interactive program geared specifically for children with special needs or with autism spectrum disorders. Using movement, music, stories and sensory play Storytime is designed to engage those sensitive to sensory overload and  is ideal for children who tend not to sit still. Library staff and students from Quinnipiac University OT Dept. will provide a supportive environment for you, your child & family members. Registration required & begins on Friday, Sept. 9th.

Monday, September 26

Homeschooler’s Book Club @ 2:30 p.m. 

Ages 8 – 12 – Are you a Homeschooling parent? Take your kids on a field trip to the North Haven Library where we will discuss books read in advance then make a related craft. This learning activity is a great way to enhance your home teaching experience.  In this class you will receive your first book and  learn about what the library has to offer.  Subsequent books will be announced.  Registration required & begins on Friday, Sept. 16th.

Canvas Club for Tweens and Teens @ 6:30 p.m. 

Ages 10 – 14 – If you like to paint or want to learn, join the Canvas Club! No painting experience is necessary! In each class we will paint a different theme, explore color and learn new techniques. You’ll be amazed what you can create! This week we will use color to make an awesome animal come alive. Sample on display in Children’s Dept.   Registration required & begins on Friday, Sept. 16th for Residents & Friday, Sept. 23rd for Non-Residents.

LEGO™ Club @ 6:30 p.m.

(Early Dismissal Day) Ages 6 – 9 with adult 3 – 2 – 1 – BLAST OFF! If you are an aspiring astronaut, space enthusiast or just looking for a fun activity, join us to create your own mini-rocket ship launcher. Saturday, October 1

A Touch of Magic @ 10:30 a.m.- 12.p.m.

Ages 8 – 12 Learn how to perform magic tricks with members of the Society of American Magicians-Wallingford Assembly. Entertain your friends and family after learning new magic secrets.  You’ll be the hit of any party! Monday, October 3

Book Time with Ronald McDonald @ 2:30 p.m.

Ages 6 – 10 with adult – This 45-minute show will engage children with a creative mix of music, magic and fun games to reinforce that reading is fun. Registration required & begins on Friday, Sept. 23rd for Residents & Friday, Sept. 30th for Non-Residents.

Creativity Club for Tweens and Teens @ 6:30 p.m.

Ages 10 – 14 – Join us for an Origami session and learn the art of paper folding! This is a relaxing activity for all skill levels. Examples will be provided. Registration required & begins on Friday, Sept. 23rd for Residents &  Friday, Sept. 30th for Non-Residents.

Tuesday, October 4

Tutu Tuesday @ 6:00 p.m.

Ages 12 – 36 months- Time for too-too much fun Tuesday at the Library.  If you or your little one has a tutu or bow tie, wear them just for fun.  Enjoy music, dancing, story and playtime. Registration required & begins on Fri., Sept. 23rd for Residents & Fri., Sept. 30th for Non-Residents.

Saturday, October 15

Sensory Storytime @ 10:30 a.m.

Thursday, October 20 @ 6:30 p.m. Ages 10 – 14 – Come hang out with your friends and other teens who appreciate Japanese culture to watch an anime film. Treats will be provided!

All Ages. Costumed candy lovers are invited to drop-in between 10:30 am & 4:30pm on Friday, Oct. 28th to Trick- or-Treat at the library! Costumes are highly encouraged!

Halloween Spooky Stories @ 3:30 p.m.

Ages 6 – 9 Dare to be scared at a special Halloween story time! Costumes encouraged! Prepare for thrills and chills with some hair-raising tales. A word of caution: It will be dark and spooky. If you might be afraid, this program is not for you. Registration required & begins on Friday, Oct. 14th for Residents & Friday, Oct. 21st for Non-Residents.
