 Programs for Children & Teens
Summer 2015

Programs are open to both North Haven residents and non-residents. You may register online with the North Haven Library Events Calendar at the upper left, in person, or by phone at 203-239-5803. Phone registrations will not be taken prior to 10 am.  See program listing for details. All programs are free.

As a courtesy to others, you must call a staff member in the Children’s Department if your child is registered for a program but cannot attend.

Failure to do so will result in your child being dropped from future programs.

 

The Wonderful World of Toys  –  Summer Reading Club

Win Fabulous Prizes at the North Haven Library – It’s Free and It’s Fun

June 19th – August 14th

Have you ever played the Game of Life? What about Ker-Plunk or Pac-Man? Or maybe Candy Land is more up your alley. If you don’t have a Clue, then you may be in Trouble, so take a Risk and join the Summer Reading Club to play games in our Wonderful World of Toys! Our game room takes Concentration,

because it’s a seriously fun Operation. It won’t Monopolize your time – just 15 minutes of reading a day.

Children must register in person at the North Haven Library starting June 19th  through August 1st.

 

Teen Reading Club

July 1st – July 31st

Middle to High school students: all you need to do is read for 30 minutes each day in July to receive a raffle ticket per day for a chance to win amazing prizes.  Registration begins on July 1st. Join us for the Pizza Party, Wed. July 1st at 1:00 to kick-off the SRC club. Please register online at www.northhavenlibrary.net  or call 203-239-5803 before June 29th to reserve your spot for this event! Attendees at the Pizza Party Kick-Off will receive 3 additional raffle tickets.

Dynamite Dinos

Thursday, June 25 at 10:15 – 10:45 am

Ages 4 – 7

Do you have a favorite dinosaur? Is it a Stegosaurus, Ankylosaurus, or maybe that terrifying Tyrannosaurus Rex? Let’s explore our favorite dinosaurs and the prehistoric world!

Registration is required and begins on June 12 for residents and June 19 for non-residents.

 

LEGO @ the Library                   

Thursday, June 25 at 7 – 7:45 pm

Ages 5 – 12

Join us for a fun program at the library building with LEGO! We shall provide the Lego and you may use your imagination to create fun projects.

 

Mouse Paint                                                

Tuesday, June 30 from 10:15 – 10:45 am

Ages 4 – 6

What happens when you mix mice with paint? You have the beginnings of color exploration!  This story, song, and craft program is sure to delight all – maybe even the cat!  Registration is required and begins on June 12 for residents and June 19 for non-residents.

 

Picnic and Performance – Les Julian

Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy family entertainment on the North Haven Library Lawn.

Monday, July 6 from 7 – 8 pm

Join singer and songwriter Les Julian as he presents his show, “WE ALL LAUGH IN THE SAME LANGUAGE.”  In case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the library’s community room.

 

Storytime

Ages 2 – 4

Story, craft and free play fun for the little ones.

Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy family entertainment on the North Haven Library Lawn.

Monday, July 13 from 7 – 8:00 pm

Dave plays traditional and contemporary folk music, spliced together with guitar, mandolin, banjo, and plenty of participation. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the library’s community room.

 

 Tutu Tuesday

Tuesday, July 14 at 10:15-10:45 am

Ages 6 to 36 months.

Time for too-too much fun on Tuesday at the Library.  If you, your baby or toddler have a tutu (or bow tie), wear it to add to the fun.  Music, dancing, story and playtime.

Registration is required and begins on June 26 for residents and July 10 for non-residents.

Spectacular Science

Wednesday, July 15 at 4:30 – 5:15 pm

Ages 5 – 9

This class offers curious kids the opportunity to explore simple science themes through the eyes of a scientist.  The class will feature a child friendly experiment that will allow the children to make simple predictions and test their ideas.  Children will learn to use simple science equipment to explore the world around them. Registration is required and begins on June 26 for residents and July 10 for non-residents.

Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy this family entertainment on the North Haven Library Lawn.

Monday, July 20 at 7 – 8:00 pm

Al engages the audience with an interactive program of dancing, singing, clapping, marching, and playing percussive instruments. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the library’s community room.

 

Beach Day!

Tuesday, July 21 at 10:15 – 10:45 am

Ages 7 – 10

What’s better than spending a day at the beach?  Spending it at the library where we will try to re-create the sun and sand.  Join us for this fun-filled adventure.

Tom Stankus, a.k.a., T-Bone will whisk away the audience on a fun-filled tropical adventure through the use of songs, stories, instruments, and games. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the library’s community room.

Retro Game Day

Friday, July 31 at 10:15 – 11:15 am

Ages 5 – 10

Retro toy and game day is back by popular demand! Send a Slinky down the stairs or try your hand at classic games from Jacks to Jump rope. Walk on stilts back to the ‘the good old days” to play with retro toys like Etch a Sketch, our View –Master reels or Lite Brite.  Drop-in at your convenience!

Flow Circus’ magic and juggling is sure to engage the audience in this exciting performance. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the library’s community room.

American Girl Doll and Teddy Bear Library Party

Ages 4 – 8

Calling all kids! Come to our American Girl Doll and Teddy Bear Library party. Bring your favorite doll or teddy bear to make a miniature library craft and enjoy a “just for the occasion” treat. Registration is required and begins on July 24 for residents and July 31 for non-residents.

 

HodgePodge Craft

Tuesday, August 11 at 10:15 – 11:30

Ages  2 – 12

Maybe you missed some of our great crafts during the year. Now you can try your hand at one or more of these crafts.  Supplies are limited so come early or drop in at your convenience! No registration required.

 

Off to Kindergarten

A program designed to get your child ready for kindergarten with a story, craft, songs and rhymes.  Registration is required and begins on July 24 for residents and July 31 for non-residents.
