North Haven Library Programs Winter/Spring 2012

 

Most programs are open to North Haven residents and non-residents.  Phone registrations will not be taken prior to 10 a.m.   See program listing for details. If there is no date listed after the program description, it is not necessary to register.  Registrations are accepted in person or by phone. All programs are free and sponsored by the Friends of the Library.  As a courtesy to others, you must contact a staff member in the Children’s Department if your child is registered for a program but cannot attend.  Failure to do so will result in your child being dropped from future programs.  For more information or to register, call 203-239-5803. 

 

Cake Decorating Contest

 

 

 

Tuesday, February 21 at 2:00 p.m. (School Vacation Week)

Ages 5 – 14

Borrow one of our cake pans and decorate or design a cake of your own.  Prizes will be awarded in different age categories.  Here is your chance to show off your baking talent.  Pick up a registration form in the children‘s department of the library between January 6 – February 10.  LATE REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Pumpernickel Puppets (School Vacation Week)

Wednesday, February 22 at 2:30 – 3 :15

Family Program – Ages 3 – up

For over thirty-five years the Pumpernickel Puppets have captivated audiences of all ages. John McDonough and his puppets present over two hundred fifty shows a year at schools, libraries and private parties throughout the New England area.  Join us for one of our most popular entertainers as he presents THE THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF and THE LION AND THE MOUSE.

Registration is required and begins on Friday, February 3 at 10 a.m. for residents and Friday, February 10 for non-residents.

 

Treasure Boxes (School Vacation Week)

Wednesday, February 22 at 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Ages 11 – 16

 

Transform a wooden cigar box into a treasure or jewelry box using wallpaper, and pictures from old magazines and books.  Registration is required and begins on Friday, February 3  at 10 a.m. for residents and Friday, February 10 for non-residents.

 

 

 

 

 

Dads and Donuts – Learn Magic (School Vacation Week) 

Thursday, February 23 at 7 – 8 p.m.

Ages 6  - 10 (and their dad or male caregiver)

Bring your dad and learn to do tricks with everyday objects as magician Chick Kelman teaches us the secrets behind the magic.  Donuts will be served. Registration is required and begins on Friday, February 3 at 10 a.m. for residents and Friday, February 10 for non-residents.

 

Pajama Storytime

Mondays, February 27 – April 2 at 6:15 – 6:45

Ages 4 – 8 (without parent or caregiver)

Wear your jammies, grab your teddy and come to listen to some wonderful stories.  No registration is required. First come, first served basis.  Please present proof of residency each time you arrive at this program.  Space is limited. Not open to non-residents.

 

Toddler Time with Mother Goose (SERIES TWO)

Session I – Tuesdays, February 28 – March 20 at 10:15 – 10:45 (4 week series)

Session II – Tuesdays, February 28 – March 20 at 11:00 – 11:30 (4 week series)

Ages 1 ½ – 2 ½ (with a parent or caregiver)

Fingerplays, songs and a story to delight the little ones. Special take home crafts.

Registration is required and begins on Friday, February 3 at 10 a.m. for residents and Friday, February 10 at 10 a.m. for non-residents.

 

Dr. Seuss on the Loose

Wednesday, February 29 at 4:15 – 5:00

Ages 5 – 7

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish! Come and celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday at this cupcake decorating party.

Registration is required and begins on Friday, February 3 at 10 a.m. for residents and Friday, February 10 at 10 a.m. for non-residents.

 

Pigging Out With Jillian Jiggs

Thursday, March 1 at 7 – 7:30

Ages 6 – 9

Do you love pigs?  Do you want one with a personality of its own?  Jillian Jiggs, a creator and seller of stuffed pigs, cannot part with her creations.  Listen to her story and get a chance to make a pig of your own – a pirate, rocker, princess, or a monster pig in celebration of National Pig Day.  Registration is required and begins on Friday, February 17 at 10 a.m. for residents and Friday, February 24 at 10 a.m. for non-residents.

 

The Ugly Duckling

Thursday, March 8 at 6:30

Ages 5 – 7

Sometimes we feel so different that we think we are unloved.  Listen to the classic story of THE UGLY DUCKLING whose lesson teaches us about growing beautiful on the inside and out.  A story and a craft session.  Registration is required and begins on Friday, February 17 at 10 a.m. for residents and Friday, February 24 at 10 a.m. for non-residents.

 

Kindermusik with Sandie (6 week series)

Thursday, March 15 – April 19 at 10:30 – 11:15

Babies – 7

Ms. Sandie of Musical Adventures LLC is pleased to offer families with children, 45 minutes of twirling, tapping, dancing, singing and more!  This program is designed to build fine and gross motor skills, social and language skills as well as cognitive reasoning skills using music as the tool to learning.  Age appropriate rhythm instruments and other props will be used to follow steady beat and rhythm.  A special instrument will be introduced each week for the children to explore. Please come in comfortable clothes as we will get a musical workout!  Registration is required and begins on Friday, February 17 at 10 a.m. for residents and Friday, February 24 at 10 a.m. for non-residents.

 

Going Green on St. Patrick’s Day

Saturday, March 17 at 10:30 – 11:30

Ages 2 – 14

Saving our planet is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  “Go green” by designing your own creations using recycled library craft materials.  Drop in for 15 minutes or the entire hour.  No registration required.

 

Tuesday Tales (4 week series)

March 20, 27, April 3, 10 at 6:30 – 7 p.m.

Ages 3 ½  – 5 (without parent or caregiver)

Songs, fingerplays, a story and a craft.  Join us for lots of fun at this popular program.

Full of Joy Yoga with Lani Rosen (5 week series)

Fridays, March 23, 30, April 13, 20, 27 at 10:30 – 11:00

Ages 3 – 5

Yoga helps children develop strong, flexible bodies while cultivating a lifetime of joy, peace and wonder. Classes combine music, games, props and stories to give everyone all the benefits of yoga.

Registration is required and begins on Friday, March 2 at 10 a.m. for residents and Friday, March 9 at 10 a.m. for non-residents.

 

A Tisket, a Tasket, Make an Easter Basket

Wednesday, March 28 at 10:30-11:00

Ages 3 ½ – 5

Design your own basket using cupcakes, jelly beans, and coconut.  Listen to an Easter story as we celebrate the spring season. Registration is required and begins on Friday, March 2 at 10 a.m. for residents and Friday, March 9 at 10 a.m. for non-residents.

 

Dads and Donuts  – Think Spring

Monday, April 16 at 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. (and their dad or male caregiver)

Ages 5 – 10

Get out your green thumb (and dad’s, too) to create butterfly attracting plants in a recycled container.  Donuts will be served. Registration is required and begins on Friday, March 23 at 10 a.m. for residents and Friday, March 30 at10 a.m. for non-residents.
