 Programs for Children & Tweens

 Fall 2016

Programs are open to both North Haven residents and non-residents. You may register online with the North Haven Library Events Calendar at the upper left, in person, or by phone at 203-239-5803. Phone registrations will not be taken prior to 10 am.  See program listing for details. All programs are free. As a courtesy to others, you must call a staff member in the Children’s Department if your child is registered for a program but cannot attend. Failure to do so will result in your child being dropped from future programs.

Tuesday, November 29

Lego™ Club @ 2:30 p.m.

Ages 4 - 12 Drop by the library and create with LEGO™! We provide the LEGOs™ and you provide the imagination! No registration required.

Spectacular Science @ 6:30 p.m.

(2 week series) - Tuesdays, Nov. 22 & 29 at 6:30 p.m. Ages 6-10 - Come join our hands-on science program. Explore scientific properties and processes!  Registration required & begins on Thursday, Nov. 10th for Residents & Friday, Nov. 18th for Non-Residents.

Wednesday, November 30

Baby Bounce @ 10:30 a.m.

Wednesdays, Nov. 2, 9,  16,  23, 30 & Dec. 7 @ 10:30 a.m.  Ages 0 - 18 months Infants and their caregivers will share nursery rhymes, songs, fingerplays and books. This interactive playtime puts an emphasis on language enrichment and pre-literacy skills. This is a drop-in program. No registration required.

Thursday, December 1

Junior Drawing Class @ 2:30 p.m.

Ages 6 - 9 with adult You’ve been asking--- now it’s here! Join us for a drawing lesson to practice basic shapes and shading. You’ll leave with skills you can use to continue practicing at home. Registration required & begins on Friday, Nov. 18th for Residents & Friday, Nov. 25th for Non-Residents. FRIDAY FUN (5 week series starting in November)

Friday Fun @ 10:30 a.m.

Fridays, Dec. 2, 9 & 16 @ 10:30 a.m.   Ages 2 ½ - 3 ½ Are you in fine form for Friday fun? Feel free to fill your Friday with singing, stories, fingerplays and a special craft. Registration required & begins on Friday, Nov. 4th for Residents & Thursday, Nov. 10th for Non-Residents.

Monday, December 5

Pokémon Club @ 3:30 p.m.

Ages 6 - 12 Do you have what it takes to be a Pokémon Master? Play Pokémon with your peers and make new friends! Be sure to bring your own cards. No registrations required.

Creativity Club @ 6:30 p.m.

This innovative program engages the entire family- play, observe, discover and create musical memories! Anime Tomodachi! @ 6:30 p.m.

Ages 10 - 14 - Come hang out with your friends and other teens who appreciate Japanese culture to watch an anime film. Treats will be provided! Patema Inverted: A young girl, from a civilization that resides in deep underground tunnels, finds herself trapped in an inverted world and teams up with a resident to escape and return home. Rated: PG, Time: 1h 38m. Registration required & begins on Friday, Nov. 25th for Residents & Friday, Dec. 2nd for Non-Residents.

Monday, December 12

Gingerbread Houses @ 6:30 p.m.

Ages 4 - 14 Gingerbread houses are a favorite holiday tradition. Decorate a gingerbread house using candy, frosting and marshmallows. *You must register in person for this program. Material fee – $2.00 - Payable and due at registration. Registration required & begins on Friday, Dec. 2nd for Residents & Friday, Dec. 9th for Non-Residents.

Tuesday, December 13

Tutu Tuesday @ 6:00 p.m.

Ages 12 - 36 months Time for too-too much fun on Tuesday at the Library. If you, your baby or toddler have a tutu or bow tie, wear them just for fun.  Enjoy music, dancing, story and playtime. Registration required & begins on Friday, Dec. 2nd for Residents & Friday, Dec. 9th for Non-Residents.

Wednesday, December 14

Star Wars: The Force Awakens @ 4:00 p.m.

Enjoy a blockbuster hit film (and a visit from some of the series' most infamous villains)! Admission fee is a donation to the North Haven Food Bank. We are looking for donations of: canned fruit or tuna, cereal, instant mashed potatoes, jarred sauce, soup, pancake mix or syrup. MPAA Rating: PG-13

Monday, December 19

Home Schoolers' Book Club @ 2:30 p.m.

Ages 8 - 12 Are you a Homeschooling parent? How about taking your kids on a field trip to the North Haven Library where we will discuss books read in advance then make a related craft. This learning activity is a great way to enhance your home teaching experience. Subsequent books will be announced.  Registration required & begins Dec. 2nd.

Canvas Club @ 6:30 p.m.

Ages 10 - 14   If you like to paint or want to learn, join the Canvas Club! No painting experience is necessary! In each class we will paint a different theme, explore color and learn new techniques. You’ll be amazed what you can create! This week we’ll learn about shadows and shading to make a winter creature stand out on the canvas. Registration required & begins on Friday, Dec. 9th for Residents & Friday, Dec. 16th for Non-Residents.

Messy Science @ 6:30 p.m.

MESSY SCIENCE (2 week series) - Tuesday, Dec. 20 & 27 @ 6:30 p.m.   Ages 6 - 10 Learn about the science of mixtures, solutions and chemical reactions through child safe, messy experiments! Week 1 we’ll make play-dough and Week 2 we’ll make slime! Wear old clothes that can get messy. Registration required & begins on Friday, Dec. 9th for Residents & Friday, Dec. 16th for Non-Residents.

Wednesday, December 21

Tween Book Chat @ 6:30 p.m.

Ages 10 - 14. This book club is for tweens who love to read and discuss books. After reading a favorite book of your choice, share your thoughts over some snacks. Then join the fun with some clever games. Please read your book choice before the group meets. Registration required & begins on Friday, Dec. 9th for Residents & Friday, Dec. 16th for Non-Residents.

Friday, December 23

Crafternoon (Early Dismissal Day) @ 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Drop-in anytime between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.  Ages 3 and up Get out of the cold and come inside the North Haven Library to create unique homemade gifts for your loved ones! While supplies last, use any of the  materials we have on hand to create an imaginative gift for someone special! Books and staff suggestions will be available. This is a drop-in program. No registration required.
