Library Cards

North Haven residents may obtain a free library card by presenting proof of residence.  Acceptable forms of identification are: valid driver’s license, utility bill, voter registration card, or other official document showing a North Haven address.  Children must have a parent’s signature.  Library cards are issued for a five year period, and must be updated after that.  Lost library cards can be replaced for $2.00.

Non-residents are welcome to use the Library.  To check out items, they need to bring a library card from the town where they live, and and ID to be put into our computer system.

Library Elf E-mail Notification Service

Library Elf is a free service that helps you avoid overdues, check multiple library cards and track books, CDs, DVDs and anything else you borrow from the North Haven Memorial Library and other libraries.

If you…

  want to reduce overdues
have children and/or a lot of books
  request a lot of holds

then Library Elf can help.  Library Elf delivers notices by email, RSS or text message before your items are due. It will also remind you when items are overdue and when you have holds to pick up.   Library Elf is a third party service and is not affiliated with the North Haven Memorial Library.  Please read their policies before signing up.

Connecticard

North Haven Library cooperates with libraries throughout Connecticut in allowing patrons with a valid library card from the town in which they reside, to borrow materials from any public library in Connecticut.   A delivery service between Connecticut’s libraries allows patrons to borrow materials at one library and return them to another.   Restrictions apply to media and interlibrary loaned items.

Interlibrary Loans

If the library does not own an item of interest, it can often be borrowed from another library for you.  Inquire at the Reference Desk or in the Children’s Department.   Materials from outside the Library’s LEAP Consortium may only be requested by North Haven residents.

Homebound Delivery

If you are unable to come to the library, and wish to check out library materials, the Reference Department coordinates homebound delivery service.   A volunteer will pick up and deliver requested materials to your North Haven home.
